演藝圈大合唱（國外篇）

前幾天在唱歌時，有位五年級的朋友上台高歌了兩曲，
一首是蔡藍欽的「這個世界」，而另外一首歌是什麼呢？
就是1985年出版並轟動一時的「明天會更好」。

不知道為什麼，每次聽到這首歌我都覺得很開心，
我真的很愛聽這種以公益或慈善為目的，並召集很多人合作的大合唱，
而且其實一直以來，這樣的作品也還不少，
本來想說整理一下台灣這邊，大概有哪些我自己比較喜歡的就好，
後來想想又覺得，幾首國際上比較經典的歌，如果沒講好像也怪怪的，
所以就乾脆一併拿出來聊一聊好了。

1. Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid



其實「明天會更好」很明顯是受到了同一年稍早時，
美國為了非洲飢荒賑災募款而合作的「We Are the World」的影響，
但這一波慈善單曲的濫觴其實並不是這首歌，
而是1984年由英國的藝人所合唱的「Do They Know It's Christmas?」。

1984年當時非洲的衣索比亞發生相當嚴重的飢荒，
國際上無不積極募款，而當時英國演藝圈也決定出一份心力，
於是開始了這個慈善合唱的計畫，參與的藝人多達45人，
並以「Band Aid」的名義，在1984年的11月29日發表了這首單曲。

這首「Do They Know It's Christmas?」，
是由Bob Geldof與Midge Ure所譜寫，參與的藝人不但眾多，
也都是當時在英倫三島上非常走紅或具有影響力的人。
原本這首單曲希望能夠募得英鎊七萬元，後來卻募得了數百萬英鎊，
在英國的單曲榜上也蟬聯數週的冠軍，一直到1985年的一開始，
才被Foreigner的「I Want to Know What Love Is」給取代，
而這首歌也成為英國史上最暢銷的單曲，一直到1997年的時候，
才被Elton John紀念戴安娜王妃的「Candle in the Wind 1997」超過。

另一方面，在「Do They Know It's Christmas?」霸佔排行榜第一的同時，
還有一首單曲則是相當暢銷，後來一樣也成為經典的「Last Christmas」，
結果Wham!這張賣破百萬的經典聖誕單曲，
也創下了英國史上最暢銷但從未登上冠軍單曲的紀錄，
但Wham!的George Michael和Andrew Ridgeley，在事後也捐出這首歌的版稅，
加入Band Aid的賑災募款當中，也成為一段佳話。

之後這首歌則有兩次重新的發行，第一次是在1989年，
又有其他藝人組成「Band Aid II」重新錄製，
這次的成員還包含了Kylie Minogue、Lisa Stansfield等人；
而在2004年，也就是Band Aid滿20週年的時候，
由Coldplay的Chris Martin發起，
再次以「Band Aid 20」為名義重新錄製這首單曲，
這兩次的發行一樣都在英國單曲榜上拿到冠軍寶座。

只是不知道為什麼，這首歌其實一直都很少聽到，
知名度似乎遠遠不及後來美國的「We Are the World」，
但不管怎樣，一樣是一首好聽的經典就是了！

2. We Are the World by USA for Africa



在「Do They Know It's Christmas?」的大大成功之後，
身為世界龍頭的美國自然也不會缺席這樣的活動，
於是在1985年的3月7日，也召集了45位藝人，
並由Michael Jackson和Lionel Richie一同譜寫，
再由Quincy Jones擔任指揮，而發行了這首永遠的經典公益單曲。

這首歌集結了當時美國歌壇幾乎所有的當紅藝人或組合，
能有機會獨唱一兩句的，也都是當時具有舉足輕重地位的人。

後來這首歌，以及「USA for Africa」舉辦的慈善活動「Hands Across America」，
一共募得了差不多一億美金的善款，幾乎全數捐給飽受飢荒之苦的非洲國家，
可說是公益單曲成效登峰造極的一次活動，而事過境遷之後，
這首歌或許已不再是為了什麼公益活動而存在，卻成為了西洋樂壇上的經典，
看看這些大牌們為了公益齊聚一堂，每個人都發揮出自己最好的歌聲，
一起合作貢獻出這首傳唱二十多年的好歌，
這首「We Are the World」已經不只是一首曾登上冠軍的單曲，
也不再只是當初為了非洲飢荒募款的公益單曲，
已經成為一首四海一家精神最好的代言歌曲。

（看看有多少大牌，真的非常難得也非常經典）

我自己很小的時候第一次聽到這首歌就覺得很好聽，
後來長大了，慢慢瞭解了這首歌背後的故事，看懂歌詞之後，
更覺得這首歌是不可多得的經典，而且認識的西洋藝人多了之後，
也更訝異這麼多所謂的大牌居然能夠同時出現在一首歌當中。
不過當時已經很紅的Madonna反而沒有出現在這首歌裡面，
但當時也發生蠻有趣的事情，那就是當時電影《Vision Quest》原聲帶中，
有一首單曲「Crazy for You」正是由Madonna演唱，
卻被「We Are the World」擋了四週才登上冠軍寶座。

「We Are the World」的成功，也帶起了許多後續的類似單曲，
都是以公益為出發點，這首經典歌曲的地位由此可見一斑。
其他單曲如下：
1985年由加拿大眾多藝人合唱的「Tears Are Not Enough」
1985年由許多重金屬樂團組成的Hear 'n Aid所發行的「We Are Stars」
1985年為了防治愛滋病的活動，由「Dionne Warwick and Friends」合唱，
發行了「That's What Friends Are For」這首單曲，
合唱的另外三人分別為以及Gladys Knight、Elton John、Stevie Wonder。

而之後也因為「We Are the World」，
讓台灣出現了史上第一次也是最成功的一次公益大合唱。
